首长：交通蓝图『过海』造福槟民 大山脚将建轻快铁

（大山脚17日讯）交通大蓝图“飞象过海”，大山脚要建轻快铁了！槟州首长林冠英早前宣布耗资270亿令吉发展槟城交通大蓝图计划，其中一项便是在槟威两岸兴建轻快铁，而涉及地段包括威南峇都加湾、威北峇眼亚占、威中诗布朗再也及大山脚。

 
盼2018年落实 

他周日莅临埠众盂兰胜会膜拜大士爷时透露，整个计划预计在2030年完成，不过州政府希望造福两岸人民的轻快铁计划最快能在2018年落实。 “根据前朝计划，轻快铁原本只在槟岛范围兴建，不过也毫无下文，因此州政府决定自行推动，这也是具有历史性的计划。” 他说，横跨两岸的轻快铁计划将从槟岛海域利用填土兴建驻站，然后跨海衔接至北海总站，再延伸到大山脚及威南峇都加湾。 他表示，若交通大蓝图计划全面落实，槟威两岸将具有5条通道，包括两座大桥、海底隧道、缆车及轻快铁，并相信四通八达的交通可促进两岸经济，槟州的繁荣至少维持50年。 赞伯公埕美化计划 林冠英在理事会带领下参观由台湾中原大学及吉隆坡USCI学生，为伯公埕老街区所进行的美化研究报告，并对此表示赞赏。 他强调，人们要掌握并了解过去，才能面对及接受未来的挑战，认为促进经济发展时不可将历史遗忘，也透露槟州行政议员章瑛及大山脚国会议员沈志强会配合这项研究计划。 埠众盂兰胜会主席拿督陈昌兴促请大山脚居民配合，了解当地的经济发展并共同做出努力。陈昌兴也在仪式上移交“大士爷史记”予首长林冠英。

Long-delayed electric train services to Penang next month

The long-delayed electric train services between Butterworth and Kuala Lumpur are expected to start in July, according to transport minister Liow Tiong Lai.
He said trial runs were being carried out on the performance of the train sets.
“On July 9, I will personally head to Batu Gajah in Perak to attend a trial run with other government officials to check on the Ipoh-Butterworth trains,” he said here after a party event, according to Star Online.
“Only after that, I will announce the important details of this new route, such as the schedule and the fares,” he was quoted as saying. Read more

Biggest Mydin outlet opens August 15 in Bukit Mertajam

The largest Mydin wholesale hypermarket in the country is opening on August 15 in Bukit Mertajam, on mainland Penang.

The building, located next to the busy Jalan Baru in Prai, has a built up area of 1.16 million sq ft. It will have three floors of shopping mall, three levels of hypermarket, a food court and even a bowling alley.

The huge project with a development cost of RM230 million will also have a warehouse, hostel and five storeys of carpark for over 1,242 cars and 1,236 motorcycles.

The building, which is under construction and will be completed next month, is an open concept shopping mall. Its other amenities include a glass surau, and an alfresco dining area with urban landscape and water features.
Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, the managing director of Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd, said they were expecting to make RM15 million in sales a month, including from wholesalers and grocers who could buy at wholesale prices.

"We are expecting a lot of customers from the area, which is also seeing a lot of development," he said yesterday after a site visit by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

Ahmad praised Mydin for absorbing the goods and services tax and keeping its prices low and affordable to consumers.

"We hope the opening of this outlet will give consumers relief as Mydin has always priced its goods at reasonable prices. Mydin has set the bar for other shopping outlets.

"Because of what Mydin is doing, other shopping outlets are also trying to offer competitive prices in order not to lose their customers. This is a good thing for consumers," Ahmad told reporters after the visit. – May 2, 2015.
